Rauceby Hospital, Greylees

For North Kesteven District Council

Woodhall provided expert witness advice on heritage matters for an appeal at the former Kesteven County Asylum, now known as Rauceby Hospital.  It comprises a number of vacant buildings associated with the former complex which are located within the Rauceby Hospital Conservation Area and the Rauceby Hospital Registered Park and Garden.

The proposal involved the demolition of 6 ward buildings, conversion of 4 buildings and construction of 100 new dwellings, a commercial building and a community hall.  It comprises the retention of four existing buildings within the core and the demolition of six ward buildings. Woodhall argued that the development would result in substantial harm to Conservation Area.  The Inspector agreed with this view and as part of his wider assessment the appeal was dismissed.
